PROTECTION OF PRIVACY - CHALLENGE FOR MODERN TIMES

28th January - European Data Protection Day is celebrated all over Europe for the fourth year on the Council of Europe's initiative as an anniversary of the adoption of the Convention 108. The main objective of this day is to raise awareness of citizens on their right to personal data and privacy protection.

For this purpose the CPDPA has been organizing in the past four years the celebration of the European Data Protection Day with many informative and educative activities in order to raise awareness on privacy protection of as many Croatian citizens as possible.

In 2010 the CPDPA has organized following activities:

·   Open Door Day in the premisses of the Croatian DPA

·   Round Table in Zagreb on personal data and privacy protection in the use of ICT with Agency's   experts and experts from other relevant fields

·   Awareness raising activities in Importanne-Center shopping mall in Zagreb (Info-desk of Croatian DPA's experts with the citizens, setting of information stalls, distribution of information leaflets, brochures on personal data and privacy protection and of other promotional material)

·   Awareness campaign in the media - media coverage throughout Croatia (popular Croatian TV and Radio shows hosting Agency's experts with aim of announcing the celebration of the European Data Protection Day and organized events) co-operation with one Primary school in Croatia (awareness raising among the pupils) - after having observed the presentation on personal data and privacy protection prepared by the CPDPA, pupils from the 5th, 6th and 7th class have expressed their opinions in words and pictures on personal data and privacy protection:

"PERSONAL DATA ARE LIKE A PASSWORD, THAT ENABLES AN ENTRY INTO OUR WORLD. THEY SHOULD BE KEPT SAFE AND NOT BE GIVEN TO ANYBODY!! "

Pupils from the Primary School "Vladimir Nazor" in Slavonski Brod
